Be a part of the story-tellers, sharing in a proud military history.
Museums depend on volunteers to perform a myriad of duties. The museum’s volunteer program is as diverse and interesting as our volunteers themselves.
Volunteers:
- conduct informative guided tours of the museum;
- develop educational programs for local schools and seniors groups;
- design, plant and maintain our flower gardens;
- assist staff in the management of the collections;
- assist in the development and fabrication of exhibitions ;
- staff information booths at community events;
- perform a myriad of other tasks.
Volunteers receive an orientation, and specialized training where required. There are opportunities for social events, awards, and in-depth museological training. Volunteers are provided with a uniform, identification tags and business cards.
Volunteers will learn new tasks and talents, brush up on old talents long forgotten, and support a very honourable institution – Canada’s military!
Do you miss your uniform, or missed your chance to be in the military?
The volunteers with the Petawawa Museums enjoy the opportunity not only to become well-versed in military history, but get the chance to re-enact military activities in full uniform
An application and screening process is in place. To apply, please contact the Museologist at 613 687 5511 ext 6034 or email museologist@petawawamuseums.com.
Rewards and benefits of volunteering in the museum include:
- learning new skills and meeting new people;
- volunteer experiences and references can become an important part of your résumé for education and employment;
- social events for volunteers throughout the year;
- knowing that you are a valued team member of a exciting and expanding historical enterprise;
