Museum Programs for Children & Youth

School and youth groups tour the museum year-round and are challenged by quizzes designed to test their knowledge of the Canadian Forces’ vital role in Canadian and world history.

Hundreds of young people from Ottawa Valley area schools will visit the museum in the fall as part of a new weeklong initiative organized around Remembrance Day. The aim is to raise young people’s awareness of Canada’s important contribution through its Armed Forces. This new program requires your valuable input and participation.

Visiting Cadets, Reservists and Regular Force personnel from all across Canada also tour the museum to learn about their heritage and traditions, and we regularly play host to international military personnel.

Games

  • Armoured Warrior: Armoured Warrior is a work of fiction based on the real-life experiences of Canadian tank crews that fought in North West Europe during the Second World War. Unlike their stories, however, YOU get to decide how this adventure will end. As the commander of a Sherman tank in the final days of the Normandy Campaign of 1944, you will live through some of the excitement, despair, brutality and sheer horror of one day's fighting at the front.
  • Over the Top - A Free Online Interactive GameOver the Top: Over the Top is an interactive adventure game that allows YOU to experience life in the trenches during the First World War. As a young Canadian soldier stationed somewhere along the Western Front in the late Fall of 1916, you will live through some of the excitement, despair, brutality and sheer horror of trench warfare. Over the Top is based on the real-life experiences of Canadians who lived and died in the trenches during the First World War. Part history and part adventure story, Over the Top is divided into sections. At the end of each section, you have to make a decision. You then click on your choice and read the outcome of your decision. A good decision will allow you to continue your adventure. A poor decision might mean trouble or, worse yet, disaster. But don't worry, you can always start over and try a new adventure. You should also keep in mind that not all decisions are life and death situations.
